Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
